What is Blood?

Blood is the most important fluid for the body. The amount of blood in the body depends on the individual weight of each person. Blood has three primary roles, transportation, regulation, and protection. The blood transports oxygen from the lungs to the cells of the body. Blood is one of the ways that carbon dioxide gets carried back to the lungs to be exhaled. Blood is also how the cells get nutrients by transporting hormones and removing waste products when filtered by the kidneys and intestines. Blood is also responsible for regulating and maintaining the blood’s narrow pH level of 7.45. The blood also plays a massive role in protection. It helps with fighting infections and the platelets in the blood enable clotting or coagulation when there is damage to a blood vessel. The blood comes in contact with a lot of waste and toxins, and one of the goals of the blood is to transport that waste to the organs that remove and process the waste for elimination. Those main organs are the liver, kidneys, lungs and digestive system. The organs responsible for such tasks must be optimized for the blood to flow efficiently and adequately.
